Out & About
Born 1918, still going strong!
Here's a character with a mighty past! When
I first
met Mr Soong, I thought he was around his '70's.
When I asked him his age, you could have knocked
me over with a feather when he told me he was 87
years old!
He works at the Parkway Parade Teochew
Porridge
counter, clearing dishes from tables. He really is
quite
a sprightly man for his age as he carefully but surely
removes and stacks up empty dishes from diners'
tables and takes them away to the stacking stations
for washing.
To keep fit, Mr Soong tells me that he still does
brisk
walking to maintain his health. What a man! So
let me
ask you...are you maintaining a regular exercise
program? Are you doing enough so that you can keep
your body in a tip-top physical condition?
I'm even more motivated now to do my regular
exercise routine! I'd like to see Mr Soong
continue on his good health for quite some time yet.
Wow, born 1918, and still going
great...sounds like we
as leaders should take a page from his book to keep
our bodies strong and healthy so that we can work
hard, and stay healthy to leave our legacy behind!
As Shakespeare said, "To be, or not to
be!" More healthy, that is. Let's keep motivating
each other to exercising regularly, eating sensibly,
and just doing it! I am! Will you join me in doing it too?

Dear Reader,
'Tis the merry month of May, and the half year
mark
is almost on us. Time now to make an inspection
of our current year's progress to date to see how
we're faring in our goals for 2005.
Some time back, I wrote about our life wheel
which
contains our mental, spiritual, emotional, physical,
financial, family, career and social goals. How's
your progress so far in these directions? If we're a bit
off-track or have 'de-railed' and jumped right off the
track, best to get back on the path again to ensure
we reach our destinations.
Beware we don't fall into a comfort
zone and start to get too entrenched in our
positions so that we cheat ourselves of ever reaching
our eventual goals.
Why not
pick out one or two of your most important goals and
work on them hard for the next 30 days? What
extra resources do you
need? What do you next need to work on? Who could
help you get there? Have you done all that you could
have done? Without a doubt, you will
become stronger, wiser,
more powerful and sophisticated once you get down
to it.
Remember, what we think about and act
upon, we become! If you need any help in this
direction, just ask me. Write to me as I have some
powerful tools and strategies to help coach and
mentor you in the right direction because you truly
were, "Born To Win!" Just don't wait
any longer!
I hope you enjoy this month's newsletter.

Getting a Distinctive Voice

Rubbing shoulders with Jessica Seet and Vernetta
Lopez at their
inaugural Art Of Voice workshop.
I joined them at
their fun public workshop early this month at
The Arts House where they presented
Voice Spa:
The
Executive Treatment. All participants
had a wow of a time learning how to use their voices
to advantage!
Their program runs through voice, face,
bodyworks, vocal exercises, creating characters and
how to take care of your voice. Both Jessica and
Vernetta are radio, voice-over, television and movie
celebrities, so
they use their voice a lot. So none better trainers
than them to teach you how to use your voice!
Go check out their
website and enrol in their next class to improve
your
voice and presentation skills. You'll also get to meet a
whole lot of other nice participants. I thoroughly
enjoyed the session. I know you will too! And tell
them that Ricky sent you!

The 3 Hearts of Leadership

With Dr David Fremantle and Shirley Taylor
I caught up and had dinner with my two good
friends
and trainer colleagues a few
weeks ago. It's always fun to catch up on the
latest news on what they've been doing, what
they're doing now and what new projects they're
working on. I went home that night and thought
about the number of books that they've both written.
Did you know that
between my two leadership friends, they've
written and are internationally published authors of
MORE than 28 books? Yes, no less than
28!
Check out Dr
David Fremantle's website here. I remember
that
I bought a copy of David's book called
"SUPERBOSS" back in 1987. I didn't know him
then. I was on a trip to Hawaii and I'd bought the
book from the airport bookstore. Little did I know that
18 years later, I would meet up with the
author...David himself!
A chance meeting several years back with Shirley
in Malaysia while on the same convention has led
to a great friendship and collaboration. Last year,
Shirley asked if I might like to write a chapter on
presentation skills in her latest revision of her soon-
to-be-released book, "Business Communications."
I jumped at the opportunity and said a
resounding "YES" to her!
So, like an expectant
father, I'm waiting
excitedly and impatiently for June or July when
the
book will be released internationally by Pearson
Education.
Finally, I'll be on the bookshelves in bookstores
all over the world! (Well, it's only one little chapter,
but it's a big start for me...:-)
Thanks Shirley for the wonderful opportunity of
getting into print! Many of you already know of
Shirley Taylor from her very fun and powerful
business writing workshops, and attending her
seminars and public and in-house programmes and
appearances at conventions all over Asia. And for
those who're not familiar with the work she does,
have a look at her details at Shirley Taylor's
website.
Leadership is making things happen. I'm so
pleased my two friends and training colleagues make
things happen!
Have a great month. On second thoughts,
MAKE it a great month ahead!
Lead With Passion!
Ricky
PS: Drop me a line or two and tell me what you
would like to read more of. Any comments or
feedback? I'd love to hear from you!
