Out & About

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year from Sydney!

****************************************

Greetings from Sydney in December! I've taken 3 weeks off to travel to Oz and to spend some time re- creating myself down-under. It's been a wonderfully busy year, and though I've shared a whole lot with so many great participants, I've also discovered parts of me that needed some further 'polish'.

I trust that you, as leaders of yourselves and others, take some planned time-outs and ponder over what has happened in 2006, congratulate yourself over strategies, jobs and tasks well done, and spend a little time to probe and analyse what else you need to up your performance.

Pull out all the stops in preparation for the coming year, stretch a little more, push a little more, do a little more each day, and I say to you...you're on your way to becoming a better leader!

I finished off the year with sponsoring 11 weeks of my FREE "The Challenge of Leadership seminars." In 2006, I focused strongly on leadership skills, practices and philosophies, travelling to San Francisco and Sydney during the year to learn even more about leadership best practices and leadership coaching.

I'm pleased to say that I've benefitted greatly from my travels and learning, and look forward to enriching my participants, friends and colleagues with my perspectives on leadership, communication skills, and motivation.

Roll on 2007!

Greetings!

Another GREAT year's coming to a close! I've had a wonderful time meeting all the new people who have attended my programmes. Although you came to my workshops to be enriched, I also came away enriched with all of your dreams and aspirations to become better people and to reach a 'higher' self not only in your various professions, but also in your private selves.

To all of you whom I've had the pleasure of meeting...I want to say how truly grateful and empowering it has been to have had our lives crossing. I really hope that you will take the road less travelled and be more than you were before we met.

A Big Thank you to all my clients! It's been a real privilege to have worked with you and your people, and I look forward to working with you again in the near future!

I wish you all good luck, health, wealth and happiness in the coming New Year!

To your success...

Ricky

  • The Challenge Of Leadership
  • Discussing a leadership issue with participants at my 11 weeks "The Challenge Of Leadership" seminars

What a blast we had! We had about 50 leaders who attended my 11 weekly seminars on "The Challenge Of Leadership" which I sponsored. Every Wednesday night, we had participants interacting with each other and internalising best leadership practices.

It was a real joy to see this happening, and I'm proud to say that most participants came away from the series of interactive seminars with a much keener edge and realisation of leadership in practice.

Leadership isn't easy. Yet it isn't all that hard either. As we expounded, leadership is about creating the right relationships with people, and until we can get this equation right along with process, product and profits, organisations will find it hard to rally their best people against market forces and competition.

Leadership is everybody's business. We can all lead without title. And it is up to everyone one of us, no matter in which position we are in, to do our utmost best...to do what is necessary...rather than wait to be told what to do.

I say without question, that it is far easier to take the road much travelled, to stay within our comfort zone, to stay within the beaten path and enjoy the security of conformity.

Many people don't want to stand out or up, like the proverbial nail that sticks out in the wood...it often gets hammered in. So what do they do? They give in, keep quiet, say nothing, and become one of the crowd.

When you act like a leader, you're really exercising power over how you live and help to influence and inspire those around you. Ask yourself constantly, who's in charge of me? Who's in charge of my life?

I remember seeing the show, "Adolf Hitler". There was a line which said something like, "For evil to flourish, all it takes is for good men to say nothing." For our own sakes, we must be proactive and speak up when we have the firm convictions of our thoughts. After all, that's how innovation and creativity is born.

Just remember that Different = Different; Different does not equal wrong! Synergised and synthesised thoughts will give you a gestalt, that is, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. That...is the challenge of leadership!

I wish you all the best in your leadership journey!

  • Quote of the Day
  • From Stuart Wilde, one of my favourite philosophers, from his book, The Secrets of Life

    On Living the Lucid Dream

When you're driving to work and there's some guy in front of you doing 40 kph and you're honking and getting angry and you're saying, "This idiot, why is he doing 40 kph when it's a 70 kph zone?" You should relax and realise that he's doing 40 kph because he's got his foot pushed on the accelerator for exactly that!

He's got all day to make it down to the supermarket and back. He doesn't understand that you're 30 minutes late for work. The fact is, we all have to live in each other's dreams.

But if somebody is imposing a dream on you that you don't like, move. You don't have to accept their reality. The whole name of the game is to constantly move in and out of positions that you're not compatible with your energy - until you find circumstances that you like.

Our feet are the most powerful gift God ever gave us. They allow us to make selections.

What do you think? Do we have this power within us to act? I say all of us do! We just have to invoke it!
