Out & About

With the Amazing William, Master of the Mystic Arts, Magician Extraordinaire!

****************************************

As you know, last month I was in Seattle, USA attending a special conference. I happened to visit the famous Pike Place Market, and in the markets was this quaint little shop run by The Amazing William J. Darkow, Magician & Entertainer.

There were crowds on people in his little shop, and I was wondering why the people were there. I had to literally elbow myself in, and to my wonderment, here was William doing magic tricks and holding his audience, young and old alike, completely spellbound! There was much laughter and mirth after each trick that William showed.

Ahhh...in life, we often take things so seriously don't we? In search of the almighty dollar and for the proverbial jug of happiness, we dash around madly trying to fulfill what we think we must have.

On that day in Seattle, while on holidays, I watched The Amazing William draw uproaring laughter from his audience and everybody had a good time. In fact, once he finished, many of the audience simply had to buy the tricks he was showing!

What a way to do business. I watched him perform his magic to create business via entertainment. Which brings me to the question I want to ask you... how often do you bring joy and laughter to your customers? Are you so intent on just getting on with it and forgetting that sometimes a bit of serious humour works wonders?

I know for a fact that people love fun. Now if you're friendly as well and know what you're doing very well, then you've got it, haven't you? Most people would just love to do business with you.

So why not try a little of the Amazing William act yourself? Give your customers the magic of wonderful service. Give your customers the best that you can give them. Go all out to please them.

And I bet you that they'll reward you plenty with their smiles of gratitude and their money in exchange for your goods or services.

Go on. Include a little magical service. Put the extra appeal into what you do. Try it with a dash of humour, a cheekful of smiles, a pull of mirth. You'll have them all lining up to do business with you!

And if you do go visit The Amazing William, tell him that Ricky sent you!

I'm making a quick trip to Sydney this month. Justin, my son, is homecoming...he's completed his one- year stint in South Korea teaching English at a private college. I haven't seen him for a whole year, and I'm looking forward to doing some male bonding!

In the meantime, have a great July. This month's main article is on Emotional Intelligence (EQ). Hope you enjoy it!

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE (EQ) IN THE OFFICE ...how to bring out the best in yourself and others.

Have you ever been in a situation whereby even if you are a dedicated, technically proficient person, someone comes along and spoils your day? It may well be a lack of interpersonal skills, in particular, a lack of empathy by the other. This lack of empathy for the needs and desires of others, or EQ, has been linked to one of the main causes of poor performance in the workplace, even among otherwise highly gifted people. Click here

  • Quote of the Day
  • From Stuart Wilde, one of my favourite philosophers, from his book, The Secrets of Life

    On the antithesis of things

"There is an an antithesis in life that actually complements what you are and you can use it. It's like the shadow in the light. You can't have light without a darkness in which it will shine.

So you have to honor the darkness that assists the light in becoming something. That's why I don't have much time for those woolly-headed characters who say that the world ought to be all cozy and lovely and guaranteed.

That Utopian love-fest is not going to happen, for if it did, all the human spirits evolving through the earthplane would suddenly head off. There would be no challenge.

We would all return to the spirit world where the love- fest is a lot better. You can't have courage unless there is weakness. You can't have goodness unless there's a notion of evil.

And you can't have spiritual growth unless there is something for you to knock up against. You should thank the Universal Power that things aren't perfect."
