Out & About

With senior officials and members of the
French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore ****************************************

You should have been there with us at a beautifully served breakfast at the Grand Hyatt on a Thursday morning this month! We had about 25 switched on business people who were enjoying my talk on, "How To Speak In Front of People"...Beating the nerves when speaking in public.

Promoting your business by speaking in front of people is probably one of the most important things you can do for your financial success. Yet many cannot seem to come to terms with this. Some people often go "blank" when delivering their speech because of anxiety, fear of failure or fear of making mistakes.

Many people find speaking in public a major challenge. It's never easy to do this, yet taking on a different strategy, using some fun techniques and performing some loosening up body exercises before your talk makes it a bit easier.

The most powerful thing to put into action is your attitude. If you've done your homework, prepared your content well, know it back-to-front, delivered it in practice countless times before the big day, then it's simply a matter of fait accompli ... that it's already done so well!

I wish you lots of elan (French for distinctive style and flair) in your next public speech!

STOP PRESS!!! STOP PRESS!!! STOP PRESS!!!

Did you know that Emotional Intelligence (EQ) is a huge predictor of your success? Those successful people who get along in life have an abundance of EQ. They have an ability to just get along with others easily, manage their emotions and manage their relationships with others.

I have an exciting public workshop on
EQ In The Office..How to Bring Out the Best in Yourself
coming up on Friday, 27 July 2007. More details can be obtained here by clicking on this link.

Greetings!

I spent the last 8 days of May and the first 8 days of June, a total of 16 days visiting Victoria, B.C., Canada and Seattle, USA. What an awesome trip. To think in the past, I would have taken months to have done the same thing and that today, you simply board a Jumbo Jet and you're there in a fraction of the time!

The weather was great, mainly beautiful days with glorious sunshine set amidst the blue sky. Some of the major highlights were visiting my brother, Steve in Victoria, B.C., attending the T Harv Eker seminar and visiting the Pike Place Fish Company.

Lots of learning there! And of course, the saying about travelling broadens the mind? Yep...sure is true...my mind's been streeeetched with all the things I've seen and learnt!

I'll be sharing many of the things I've had the opportunity to learn during my workshops.

To your success...

Ricky Lien

Seattle, Washington State...At the Pike Place Fish Company where you can actually catch your Fish, Fish and more Fish! This is the only place in the world where you see 'flying fish' on land...yes...these people throw the catch of the day around the shop area when their customers order them and are a world renowned tourist attraction. Of course, they're also very successful businesspeople as they supply all types of fish, wholesale and retail.

If you're not sure about what I'm talking about, and you think I've gone 'fishy', check out your local bookstores for the Fish books written by Stephen Lundin

Stephen Lundin writes an imaginary story, a parable. It's about a manager who's desperately trying to find some answers to save her workplace which is dull, unmotivated, and nobody wants to take responsbility.

The manager is then taught by a character from the Pike Place Fish Company, a world-famous market that is wildly successful thanks to its fun, bustling, joyful atmosphere and great customer service.

By applying simple lessons learned from the Pike Place Fish Market, our manager finds the secrets on how to energise and transform her workplace.

'Fish', the book, focuses on the most pressing work issues with an engaging metaphor and an appealing message. It offers wisdom that is easy to grasp, instantly applicable, and profound in any organisation.

I've read the book at least 3 times over. It's an engaging read, and when you apply the several fun and down-to-earth principles that Lundin writes about, you're on your way to a world-class organisation!

What a place! It was thoroughly exciting as a motivational trainer to stand there in the midst of all the 'flying fish', and catch the wonderful attitude pervading the shop, and to see the smiling, grinning faces of the admiring audience who had come from all over the US and the world to see this energetic team in action!

It certainly makes a world of difference when your attitude is spot on, fun and focused on making a big splash to the customer by delighting them. What a philosophy...and it'll work in just about any business.

Happy fishing!

  • From Stuart Wilde, one of my favourite philosophers, from his book, The Secrets of Life

    On Understanding

"There are many things I do not understand. I like it that way. It took me a long time to realise that having to know the answer to everything is a trap.

There are loads of things to which there are no real answers. So if your mate Harry ploughs through the front of the Seven-Eleven, you can sit and wonder all day why that happened or you can just accept that it did.

Sure there's a reason, but what good will it do to trouble yourself over it? Maybe Harry needed out of the earth plane in a hurry and they are not called "convenience stores" for nothing!"
