Out & About
As a special guest of Pfizer Animal Health, Denver,
Colorado,
I attended the Excellence in Speaking Institute's
premier workshop in executive presentation skills.
****************************************
What an excellent learning experience it was for me in
Denver, Colorado. I had the pleasure of learning from
three experienced facilitators - David Reinhardt, Niki
Devereaux and Michael Fur from the Excellence in
Speaking Institute (ESI) and representatives from
Pfizer
Animal Health who flew in from the various areas
of the United States to attend the 2.1/2 day workshop.
The only way to stay in front for all of us is
continuous and never ending improvement. When we
eventually become masters of what we specialise in,
our daily work will become JOYous as we share
and teach what we know best to help other people
enjoy the same attributes that make Olympic
champions of us all!
I'd like to give very special thanks to Ty Boyd,
Brian
Ragland and Robin Palmer for the special
invitation to participate in this learning group. And
thanks also to new friends Michelle Carey, Terry
Sorrell,
Amy Fedon, John Williams, Dr John Lee, Dr Gavin
Staley and Courtney Deacon who helped me on
this
learning adventure.

Greetings!
You've probably noticed that, "Ricky's Review"
has
been absent for a little while. I needed a break to
refresh my ideas, vision and purpose. This month, I
start writing the "Review" again, refreshed and
strengthened in my resolve to present life enriching
programmes to help people
reach success in the areas that mean most to them.
During the lull, I've travelled overseas
several times, the last time being in July to Denver,
Colorado, USA where the grand Rocky
Mountain range sits. I've got much to share, and I
trust that all the new subscribers to the newsletter (a
big welcome to you!), and all my fellow learners will
take up to reading "Ricky's Review" once
again. I look forward to sharing my ideas and
essential tips on executive speech, leadership and
EQ.
Go and have your best gold performance in this
Olympic month! ...
Ricky Lien

At the private showing of my first major starring
role in
a short video called "Mirage", produced and
directed
by Sam Kumar - he's the man in the middle.
***********************************************************
Lights, Camera, Action! I played the major role
in a short video called "Mirage." It is based
on my story. It's scripted, produced and directed by
Sam Kumar, a serious enthusiast in film and video
who tells me that before the next 5 years is
up, his aim is to produce his first full-length movie for
world-wide distribution.
"Mirage" is a story about love won and love lost. A story
of a young man, who, during his university days, falls
in love with a beautiful girl named Vicky. He recounts
his story, delving into his past. The video goes back
into his past life, capturing the wonderful scenes of
his time with his first love.
The camera zooms slowly into his eyes as he
recounts the wonderful times spent with Vicky
and begins to zoom slowly out. Richard, the man I'm
playing, is startled when the lady in front of him turns
out to be his doctor and it's a case of lost memories!
After prescribing Richard the appropriate medicine,
a nurse escorts him out of the surgery.
What a sad, bitter-sweet ending!
Sam will be sending "Mirage" to the
major film festivals in the world, and he hopes to gain
mention and awards so that he'll gain the attention of
a prominent film studio to produce and direct a full-
length movie. Good luck Sam!
Last year, I started to plan my next business
initiative.
It is to produce training videos. My three major
reasons to do this are:
1. To leverage my time
2. To extend my products internationally
3. To leave a legacy
More news of my new adventures in video will unfold.
So watch this space!

| Dean's Honors graduate joins Mindset Media |

Happy engineers graduate as first class speakers
and communicators!
***********************************************************
Michelle Lim , see picture above, standing in
the front row, first lady wearing black on the left, joins
me as
personal assistant!
I've been searching for a personal assistant who's
interested in training and video production. I'm so
pleased to have Michelle Lim join me at
Mindset Media as personal assistant. She'll be
supporting my efforts to make my classroom training
even more awesome and entering into the realm of
producing training videos.
Michelle is a graduate from the University of
Queensland majoring in Arts and Media Studies. She
was on the Dean's honors list several times. And even
during her secondary school days in Singapore, she
was on the honours roll list for several straight
semesters in a
row.
Prior to joining me, Michelle worked with a recruitment
agency where she learned skills on how to handle
difficult situations, sharpen her communication skills
and also how to gain presence on the telephone. I'm
sure her skills will help me and Mindset Media go to
the next level.
She confides that she's got a soft touch for Bu Bu,
their family dog. One major challenge of hers is
keeping a 5 year long distant romantic relationship
going with her beau in Australia. I suppose absence
makes the heart grow fonder!
Welcome aboard Mindset Media, Michelle!

| Quote of the Day |

From Stuart Wilde, one of my favourite
philosophers, from his book,
The Secrets of Life
ON RESTRICTION
If your feelings are closed down and narrow, you
eventually pull restriction into your life because what
you're putting out is restriction. You might not be
aware of it, but restriction is endemic to all our
societies.
It's taught in school. Everywhere you go - Australia, the
West Coast of the United States, Canada, England
and back again - you see nothing but control and
restriction of people. It is awesome.
But people are used to it. They like it. It's as if
somebody came along and they thumped you on the
foot every hour with a mallet. The first time you'd be
annoyed, really annoyed. But by the second hour
you'd be a little less angry.
Once they had been thumping you on the foot every
hour on the hour for ten years, you'd be sitting there
thinking, "Oh, he'll be along in a minute," because
you'd get used to it.
You'd think, "Oh, he's late, what happened to him?"
That's how we are. You can't, unless you get out and
stand back and look at it, even conceptualise the level
of restriction that you accept into your life.
By opening up your heart you are affirming that you are
prepared to break out.
