Out & About
Oh, what a feeling! Making history, the world's first
FORMULA ONE
night racing will be held in Singapore on 26-28
September 2008.
****************************************
What a thrilling event! Singapore will host a round of
the 2008 FIA Formula
One World Championship. The race will be the first
night-time event in Formula One history. The timing
of the night event means it can be broadcast at a
convenient time for European TV audiences.
The audiences all over the world who will be watching
the grand prix will observe the track illuminated by a
series of projectors. The projectors
adapt their output to match the shape of the
course. This is truly high tech at work to monitor the
bravado of the drivers!
We all drive our own FORMULA ONE race every day.
Just like the racing teams who prepare the vehicles
for winning the races, we must get our resources
ready for the pressure on our physical, emotional,
spiritual and mental strengths for completing our daily
race to finish with the chequered flag in obtaining our
goals for the day.
We must drive our own carefully prepared vehicles to
win. The moment we become a passenger, a tourist
or a sightseer on our vehicle, the driver could take us
on any detour, on any route other than the one we
want.
So we must be competent at driving our own vehicle
on a daily basis to reach what we need to do to fulfill
our dreams. Time passes quickly, and unless we
watch where we're driving, we'll surely end up at the
last of the racers.
That's not the way life should be. I wish you all the
best in winning your FORMULA ONE grand
prix which you race daily. Sharpen your skills, talents
and mindsets, and I trust you'll finish first at your
chequered flag!

Presenting You!

Be brief, be clear, be to the point!
***********************************************************
Here's my Top Ten tips and techniques on presenting.
If you practice them, you will show a dramatic
improvement whenever speaking:
1. Speak in a normal, conversational tone of voice
2. Change your speed occasionally
3. Change your tone occasionally
4. Change the volume occasionally and be careful to
balance loud moments with softer moments
5. Use your face to express the feeling and
thinking
6. Move your body to express, and stand strong
7. Move your hands to emphasise what you're
saying
8. Speak consistently at both an intellectual and
emotional level
9. Smile and look like you're having fun
10. Rehearse repeatedly to avoid stumbling over
words
Action: If you already have my memory jogger
card with
my top 20 tips, practise those daily. If you don't have
my memory jogger card or you've lost it, and you want
one, send me
an email with your postal address on it and I'll
send you one! No strings attached.

Emotional Intelligence At Work

Happiness at work builds EQ!
***********************************************************
What is happiness at work? What's the opposite of
happiness? Some people might be tempted to say
sadness, but if you think about being sad, it really
doesn't seem to be that. Instead, I'd look at the
opposite of being happy, and that is being bored. Yes,
bored!
So how do you avoid being bored? By doing your
tasks with a larger world view, you can become happy.
So instead of the shopkeeper just taking your cash for
the goods you want, he looks upon serving you with
your need and wishing you well on your way with a big
happy 'thank-you!'
I say that the easiest way to connect with people is by
giving them a genuine, sincere smile. Across all
cultures and people, you'll find that a genuine 'hello',
and a big hearty smile and a 'thank-you' will give the
other person a big kick out of dealing with you.
In fact, you might even get them to change to a brighter
colour to face the workday!
Action: Smile in front of your mirror. There are many
different types of smiles. Make your face up and smile,
imagining that you're giving a smile to a baby, or a
smile to your lover, or a smile to your Mother, or a
smile to your Father, or a smile to a good customer, or
a big smile to your boss when you've completed a
project.
So differentiate between the various smiles, and you'll
be guaranteed that you'll begin to attract people
towards you like a magnet. Happy smiling (please
make it genuine), and when you make this into a
habit, you'll already begin to have a much higher EQ
competency!

The Lone Ranger and Tonto

This article is from Phil Evans, a professional
colleague from Sydney. It's so funny, yet so true that I
just had to share it with you!
"Simplicity is often the best tool to use when viewing
life, and the experiences in it.
When faced with a challenge or simple question, it
can just be too easy to get too intense and lose sight
of the simple answers presenting themselves to us.
Here's a great example ....
Ancient Indian Wisdom:
The Lone Ranger and Tonto went camping in the
desert. After they got their tent all set up, both men fell
sound asleep. Some hours later, Tonto wakes the
Lone Ranger and says, 'Kemosabe, look towards sky;
what you see?'
The Lone Ranger replies, 'I see millions of stars.'
'What that tell you?' asked Tonto.
The Lone Ranger ponders for a minute then
says, 'Astronomically speaking, it tells me there are
millions of Galaxies. Time wise, it appears to be
approximately a quarter past three in the morning.
Theologically, the Lord is all powerful , and we are
small and insignificant. Meteorologically, it seems we
will have a beautiful day tomorrow. What does it tell
you, Tonto?'
'You dumber than buffalo dung. Someone stole tent.'
Or was that, two in tents?"
Keep it simple: and .... keep smiling 'cos it suits you!
Phil says, "Remember: "What others do or say is their
stuff; how
we react, or not, is our stuff"!
And: "True Happiness in life isn't having what you
want,but wanting what you have"!

Quote of the day

From Stuart Wilde, one of my favourite
philosophers, from his book,
The Secrets of Life
ON JUST BEING
The fruit tree doesn't jump out of the orchard and
knock on your local Supermarket's door and say, "Hey,
do you need any of these?".
And you too should not try and force your gifts on
others. Let them know you exist and what it is that you
do but wait for people to come to you. It's stronger that
way.
The less you appear to need people or their business,
the stronger the power and eventually the greater your
success.
