Dear Reader,
One of the highlights in October for me was the
Think On Your Feet(R) Network
meeting in Sydney.
Accredited instructors came from as far away as
the UK, Germany, Singapore, and New Zealand.
I had the opportunity to network and exchange
instructional techniques with some of the world's best
instructors in this unique communication skills
programme.
This programme is one of the most popular at the
Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) -
they had huge enrolments for their October run in
which I had the pleasure of co-facilitating with Mr. Ken
Wall from Melbourne.
I hope you enjoy this month's newsletter.
Make it a fabulous November, and I'll see you next
month.

Mastering Communications
Technical and scientific professionals have unique
challenges in relaying complex information.
I have
listed some of these here:
-
Material must be organised in strict sequential order
- Material must be presented with unambiguous clarity
- Topics are rigidly defined
- Specific terminology is used
- They sometimes find it hard to establish rapport
with audiences
- They have difficulty in retaining audience
enthusiasm and interest
So analyse your material, and pay particular
attention to the researching, organising, and presenting
of sometimes complex information.
My suggestion is to present your information simply,
passionately, sometimes with humour, but always
clearly.
Strive to use Similes, Metaphors, and Analogies to help
your audience understand your presentation.

Self-Empowerment - Championing the Inner Child
Working with others in our everyday lives demands
a lot. On the one hand, we need to act politely,
tactfully and be persuasive with what we want. On the
other hand, we often have conflicting urges to not
behave this way but to act with straightforwardedness
and to tell the other person what s/he is doing wrong.
When your inner child wants the other person to
understand us first, it just doesn't work that way.
Why? Because the other is too busy wanting
you to understand them first!
"Seek first to understand, then to be understood"
(Stephen Covey). Now that makes sense - when
you do this, others can see that you're trying to
understand them and when you act out of sincerity,
you will stand to gain empowerment for both.
By first listening and understanding the other person,
you will make him or her feel validated and more
importantly, understood - and that's the way towards
better relationships for both.
Do practice this - you'll be amazed at how much better
you'll become at empowering self and others!
